Founded in 1991, UMAP is a voluntary association of governmental and non-governmental representatives of the higher education sector.
Its aim is for each of the countries and territories of the Asia-Pacific region to achieve a better understanding of the cultural, economic and social systems of the region through cooperation among higher education institutions and increased mobility of academics and staff.
The network is currently spread across 36 countries and has more than 600 member universities or institutions.
Participating in an exchange with this network has some differences compared to our bilateral agreements, especially with respect to housing, food and the application and payment process.
USM may select a certain number of students to participate in the UMAP Network program each semester, subject to the number of spaces offered by the program. Interested USM students may apply in any of the two DAI calls for applications that take place each year, indicating the UMAP network as one of their preferences.
If approved/preselected for this network, the student will have to make a second application on the UMAP website, approximately 6 months before the beginning of the exchange. In this section, the student chooses up to 5 universities within the network, in order of preference. If you choose institutions within Program A, there are no costs associated with the application.
*NOTE: Please note that tuition and fees are still paid at USM and the student is responsible for accommodation, airfare, medical insurance, among others.
The UMAP network has a program search engine where you can obtain information on the university of your choice.
